I spent three wonderful days in Arizona, speaking about C. S. Lewis and signing copies of my newest book, The Hidden Story of Narnia.
On Sunday, October 17 I preached in two worship services at the First Presbyterian Church of Mesa. I really enjoyed both the traditional and contemporary services there. The people were most friendly and many stopped by my book table between services to chat and get their books signed.
On Monday, October 18, I spoke at Grand Canyon University. In addition to a number of students and faculty from the college, we had 50 high school students from the Community Church of Joy in attendance. These high school students asked some very good questions. I especially appreciated meeting and speaking briefly with some of the foreign exchange students in the group.
Then on Tuesday, October 19 I spoke to a group of about 75 people at Christ Presbyterian Church in Goodyear, Arizona. Wow, what a friendly and gracious group! Great enthusiasm, and again, fantastic questions about C. S. Lewis, his life and work.
Thanks to all my hosts: Brant Baker and Kirk Sexton of First Pres Mesa, Dr. Jim Helfers, Dr. Lisa St. Louis and all the faculty at Grand Canyon who were so helpful, and Bob Simmons, Pastor of Christ Pres in Goodyear. However, the lion's share of my gratitude goes to Bruce and Laurie Johnson who provided very caring and gracious hospitality in their lovely home in Scottsdale for three days and four nights.
Now I am in the Los Angeles area where I will speak to the Southern California C. S. Lewis Society meeting at Azusa Pacific University tonight. I hope to give a report on that meeting in the coming days.....
